rTorrent Setup Manual
This page shows how to install rTorrent on your machine in different ways and on different platforms.

1. Introduction
Before using rTorrent, you have to install (as outlined on this page) and configure it.
2. Package-based installation
This is the easiest way to get a working rtorrent executable onto your system, with the unfortunate side-effect that quite often these packages cotain a rather outdaten version of it. See the OS specific instructions for more.
3. Installation from source
If you compile your own executable, you are free to chose whatever version you want, including the current bleeding edge of development (SVN HEAD), or a release tarball. The instructions on installation using SVN show you how. Also note the Setup compiling from source section later on this page.
